Clean Air Kansas is a grassroots, non partisan campaign that worked with Kansas residents and other health organizations to secure the passage of a statewide smoke free law for Kansas. The Kansas legislature passed the bill in February 2010 and the law is effective July 1, 2010. Clean Air Kansas represented the grassroots voice of citizens calling for a uniform, statewide smoke free law that covers indoor public places and workplaces including restaurants, bars and private clubs. The Clean Air Kansas vision was to:

  1. Recognize that everyone has the right to breathe smoke free, clean, indoor air in public places and at work. No one has the right to endanger employees and the public by exposing them to second hand smoke.
  2. To affirm the right to breathe over the right to smoke,
  3. To protect vulnerable populations, including children, employees, the elderly, and those with chronic health conditions.

Clean Air Kansas was supported by the Sunflower Foundation; the Healthcare Foundation of Greater Kansas City, the Kansas Department of Health and Environment; University of Kansas School of Medicine; Kansas Academy of Family Physicians; Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas; Tobacco Free Kansas , KS Assoc. of Health, Physical Education, Research, Dance; Kansans for Better Health, AARP, American Cancer Society; American Lung Association; Kansas Action for Children; American Academy of Pediatrics; American Heart Association; Kansas State Nurses Association; numerous health related organizations and Kansas residents
