DERBY GOES SMOKE FREE
The City Council strengthened it current smoke free ordinance on July 22, 2008 by the vote of Mayor Avello after the council tied 4-4. It became effective September 1, 2008 and made all offices, restaurants, and bars within the city are smoke free. A few establishments within the city which requested a permit to build an outside patio have been granted permission to delay restricting smoking within their building until the outdoor patio is built or January 1, 2009.
