On March 16, 2009 the McPherson City Commission passed an ordinance regulating smoking in public places within the city.  The ordinance allows smoking in no more than 50 percent of enclosed dining space in local restaurants.  This "smoking section" must be enclosed with ventilation that leads directly outside and must remain a "smoking section" during posted business hours.  Bars that gross less than 50 percent of their revenue from the sale of food or non-alcoholic beverages are exempt from the smoking ordinance.  Private clubs, fraternal organizations and tobacco shops are also exempt.  The ordinance takes effect on May 18, 2009.

Take Action
If you live in McPherson OR know someone who lives in McPherson who is in favor of additional smoke free protections for all indoor public places and workplaces, please have them write or call the City Commission as soon as possible. If you send an e-mail ask the recipient to forward the email to their contacts in McPherson. McPherson residents, please make your feelings known.
